October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Although breast cancer is one of the most common cancers, early detection and better treatment options are allowing more women to survive breast cancer than ever before. Penn Medicine encourages women to have a mammogram annually beginning at age 40, practice monthly breast self-exams and know their family history.

For women diagnosed with breast cancer, Penn Medicine offers a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship. The Penn radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists treating breast cancer all specialize in breast cancer care and provide the latest diagnostic and treatment options in a supportive and compassionate environment.
